Hot Cider Buttered Rum blends warm apple cider with a sweet butter, spices, and a touch of rum. It’s sure to keep you cozy on cold Winter nights!

Hot Cider Buttered Rum

Apple cider get an adult twist that can be enjoyed all Winter long. I love a good rum drink, and adding it to warm apple cider is the perfect combination.

Apple Cider:

Freshly pressed apple cider is the best. I don’t live up north near an orchard, therefore grocery store cider does the trick. Making your own spiced cider is easy and can be enjoyed on its own or in drinks like Homemade Apple Cider Floats, Apple Cider Sangria, and Hot Cider Buttered Rum. Spiced cider isn’t necessary for this recipe, but the kitchen definitely smells amazing while it is being made. If you’re in a pinch, regular apple juice works too.

Sweet Spiced Butter:

The butter mixture is so simple to make, I don’t know why I haven’t created it before. Softened butter is mixed with brown sugar, spices, vanilla and salt. I am keeping my butter base in a mason jar in the refrigerator, so I have easy access to it on cold evenings. This is also easy to make in batches if you’re hosting a holiday party and want a unique cocktail. You can even jazz it up and bring it as a hostess gift.

A dark rum is preferable for Hot Cider Buttered Rum. Dark or black rum has been aged the longest and developed a darker color and deeper flavor. Gold rum is more amber, but still good for this recipe if you don’t have dark rum available. Light, silver, or white rum, is the lightest of the rum and doesn’t have as much of a pronounced flavor.

Tips, Tricks and Tools:

  • Mason Jars are my favorite choice for storage.
  • Buttered Rum ingredients are great for a hostess gift. Don’t forget the insulated mugs!
  • Use a hand mixer to whip up a double batch of the sweet spiced butter.
